Girls Rule
August13, Sagebrush Downs, Kamloops

The only all girl jocks room that we know of happened at Sagebrush Downs in Kamloops on the weekend of August 13th. The all female cast resulted when riders Travis Wilkinson and Sam Shirley booked off their scheduled mounts. That left six ladies to ride the card.

Melissa Wilson dominated winning 4 of the seven races and added two seconds and fourth to her record. Laurina Windt brought in two winners and Amber Dickinson was the other winning jock. Melissa Wilson started the day winning the first race, a 400 yard Quarter Horse dash, with George Signoretti and Kurt KierÕs Street. It was a close race down stretch as Street held back a pressing High Lee Likely by 3/4 of a length.

In the third Wilson was back in the winnerÕs circle with Leslie RossÕs Frankie Walter. A quick move to the front had Frank Walter in command in the stretch and across the wire in hand. In the fourth Wilson kept Alfie WebsterÕs Lucky Son Three to the task and won by a neck in driving finish over Bob SchmidtÕs Bad Toda Bone.

In the sixth an allowance race for fillies and mares Wilson used the rail to get up for the score with Jack SpringfordÕs I Have A Dream. Both Frank Walter and I Have A Dream are trained by Sonny Johnson.

Trainer Eric Crofoot who has been racing here and in Boise, Idaho this summer, saddled Doris WoodÕs NaleeÕs Classic for the second race. It was Laurina Windt first of two winners.

In the seventh Windt won with ease on Vicki Anderson and L AntoineÕs Soccer King. Vicki Anderson had a training double. The fifth a maiden race was won by Leslie, Jean & Hale WebberÕs On Thewing who is trained by the ex jockey. Anderson legged up Amber Dickinson who hustled On Thewing to the front and held a 1 1/2 length margin at the wire.

In the rider standings Sam Shirley is still the leader with 14 winners. Dickinson and Mellish are tied for second with ten winners each. Mellish didnÕt hit the winnerÕs circle but was close she had 3 seconds and 3 thirds on seven mount for the day. In training standings, Jim Brown still leads with 8 winners in 10 starts. Wade Hardie is second with 6 wins and Vicki pulled into third place with her two winners increasing her tally to 5 wins.
