TIME IS MAGIC
The ninth Ogopogo Stallion Stakes Futurity for Roy and Agnes
Jacksons TIME THE MAGIC was worth the wait. The Jackson
s are a Kamloops area ranching family with a love of horses.
One of their passions is raising and racing horses and it
was a family affair when Time The Magic galloped home in the
nearly $20,000.00 race for two year old Quarter Horses.
The dam of the winner, Chart The Magic was bred by the late
Dave Bruce who had wanted to win the Ogopogo since its
inception. The Jacksons purchased then raced the mare
successfully before breeding her to Judge Cash. The Bruce
family as well the Jackson's were celebrating with the Wilcoxs
who trained both families runners. Dave Bruce was an avid
Quarter Horse enthusiast and the Jackson's were as happy for
his memory as for their own efforts in raising a champion.
Daughter Jennifer a local vet and daughter Holly were beaming
and it was a happy crowd that joined jockey Laurina Windt
and trainer Ron Wilcox. It was special for the the Wilcox's,
it was a third Ogopogo winner for the Kamloops based trainer.
Jockey Laurina Windt had ridden Time The Magic to the fastest
qualifying time two weeks ago and it looked easy again for
speedy filly.
Time The Magic became the fastest winner of the Ogopogo and
the gray??? daughter of War Easy Jet.was a convincing two
and a quarter length winner. This spring the Jacksons
had to straighten out paper work with the AQHA because her
colourlng to make certain that she would be eligible to race.
It was a certainly a family affair that hard work, time
and magic(*a new name?) helped to complete a Dave Bruce
dream.
Buckey Stockwell runners Ima Emotional Girl and Anticipation
109 finished second and third respectively in the four hundred
yard sprint.
It was an excellent day for other Interior based runners.
In the first Roberta Holmes Buckey Stockwell trained
Runnin Onya with Travis Wilkinson up battled for a head victory
over Luigi Sales High Lee Likley. In the third Wilkinson
was an easy three length winner with J & A Strachans
and C & O Vizers Ebony Jazz against three year old
maidens. In the fifth another Kamloops runner Jeannie Blains
Alyisco held sway over Taurnaga. Sam Shirley was in the irons
for his second winner. Shirley also won the second with Ma,
Neigi and Yeungs Colorado Springs. Trained by Jim Brown
of Vancouver Colorado Springs held on by a head after 6 1/2
furlongs.
The sixth, the $4300.00 Erin Rae Stakes for fillies and mares,
saw Vics Eyes, with rider Jackie Smith, upset the heavy
favourites Holly Hollywood and So Cool. Waskiseau Farms Vics
Eyes ran down the front runners and paid $14.10 to win. Dennis
and Irene Millers homebred Dads A Prospector was
another Kamloops winner and jockey Amber Dickinson gained
her sixth season winner in the eighth race.
The Arabians were featured in the Arabian Desert Mile. The
$1950.00 race sponsored by Trucks Plus of Kelowna was won
for the second straight year by Penny Hoglunds C N Formeen.
Hoglund, who ships from Spokane, Washington was especially
pleased with the six year olds' effort which was faster than
last years time. Laurina Windt helped C N Foreen get
the record as they came a head best of Norman Pottles
N-L Serbania.
Despite a blustery start to the day the ninth running of the
Ogogopo had a good crowd which enjoyed special a event which
will be remembered as Time Is Magics Ogopogo.
